Saw the recent anime and decided to read the series. I didn’t like it at first but the quirky characters grew on me. My favorite chapters revolve around Aoyama’s adventures playing an MMO because I did not expect a sports manga to go there.
This week Seamus is keeping up with BEASTARS, darfox talks about the end of Fairy Tale, we discuss the Hollywood TV adaptations of One Piece and Cowboy Bebop, we praise the casting of Willem Defoe as Ryuk in Netflix’s Death Note, dakazu loves Ono Natsume’s new manga Lady and Oldman but doesn’t like the reboot of Osamu Tezuka’s The Three Eyed One called Mitsume Mokushiroku: Akuma Ouji Sharaku(Three Eyed Apocalypse), and dakazu rants about accepting commissions for scanlations. Then we continue our long retrospective review of I am a Hero and discuss major events that take place during the Hakone Hot Springs arc!!!(covers chapters 156-191)
Natusme Ono’s new manga. It’s an interesting tale about a man who finishes serving a 100 year prison sentence and a young girl who helps him. They team up to become couriers for dangerous packages in 1960′s Los Angeles. I really love Natusme Ono works that are set in America. I want to read more!
Found this reboot/sequel to Osamu Tezuka’s lesser known work The Three Eyed One. Pretty disappointing as the artwork isn’t great. I recommend you go read the original instead.
On this episode we give our opinions on light novels, we discuss the newest chapters of Chi no Wadachi and BEASTARS, dakazu finds Paru Itagaki’s Prototype of BEASTARS called Beast Complex and checks out Restaurant to Another World(Isekai Shokudo), and Seamus and Darfox review the second season of TheEccentric Family. Then we return to our retrospective of I am a Hero! We wrap up the Kurusu-arc and get into the Hakone hot springs-arc!!!(covers chapters 118-155)
A manga about a restaurant that ends up serving famous historical figures who appear in it to have their last meal before death. As far as fantasy eating manga goes this one is top notch. I appreciate how all the patrons pose a question that relates to their personality for the chef has to answer with his dish.
Sequel series to Blue Giant. Follows young tenor sax jazz player Dai Mikimoto on his trip to Europe. Really love this manga. Shinichi Ishizuka might be the best at representing the intensity of music in manga’s visual medium. If you like great human drama this is a manga for you!
Story about a modern day Japanese tavern that’s serves citizens in the fantasy medieval port city of Aiteria.
It’s basically a bunch of ‘fish out of water’ stories for the citizens who are amazed by the Japanese cuisine. Similar to Restaurant to Another World but I think this one is better because the stories revolve around well written characters, similar to Shinya Shokudo.
Decided to check out this manga adaptation because the anime is currently airing right now. It’s not bad but I feel like the concept of a modern restaurant serving customers from in a fantasy setting is done much better in Saigo no Restaurantand Isekai Izakaya “Nobu”, both of which also came out before the light novel this is based on. I’ll probably introduce those manganext instead.
This week we answer an email, we discuss the newest arc in BEASTARS, dakazu finishes Coppelion and watches the Welcome to the Ballroom anime, darfox is looking forward to FLCL2+3, we rejoice in the news of A Silent Voice getting a US theatrical release, and the teaser trailer of the live-action adaptation of BLEACH scrounges up mixed feelings. Then we take a break from our I am a Hero retrospective to check out the live-action adaptation that came out last year. We break down pros and cons of the film and compare it to the manga!
