Manga Machinations on the Manga Mavericks BEASTARS podcast

We were asked by Manga Mavericks to come talk about one of our favorite series, BEASTARS! Lots of discussion about everything we love about BEASTARS, from the epic world building to the unique art style Paru Itagaki utilizes.

Download it here or go to the Manga Mavericks website!

Beast Complex

Beast Complex

The precursor to BEASTARS. Each chapter focuses on the relationship between a different carnivore and herbivore pair.

Reading this you can really tell that Paru Itagaki had everything figured out before she started BEASTARS. There’s so much thought put into this world she’s created. You can almost tell through these little vignettes that Itagaki just wants to share this complex animal society and the interesting stories she can craft here. I love it.

BEASTARS

BEASTARS

In a world of anthropomorphized animals who live in a society where carnivores are forbidden to eat herbivores, a young grey wolf falls in love with a dwarf bunny.

If you’ve listened to any of our episodes you know that we are HUGE fans of BEASTARS here at Manga Machinations. Our co-host darfox even wrote an excellent essay about it.

We’re overjoyed to hear that VIZ will be publishing this amazing manga next summer so people can finally read it legally.
